Grand-daughter of Indian freedom fighter, lawyer, and former Justice Rajni Patel, Amisha, a Gemini, was born in Bombay's Breach Candy Hospital. She is nicknamed Angel and Princess. Her younger brother Ashmit Patel is also a Bollywood film actor and her name is a blend of the first three letters of her father's name Amit and the last three letters of her mother's name Asha.
She studied at the Cathedral and John Connon High School in Bombay, and went on to obtain a degree in Economics from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, U.S.A. After graduation she worked for a Finance company and also modeled on the side.
She has studied Bharat Natyam dance form since the age of five, and had acted in several plays in Satyadev Dubey's Theatre including a play titled 'Neelam'.
Patel is the daughter of Amit Patel and Asha Patel, sister of Ashmit Patel and the granddaughter of the famous lawyer-politician Barrister Rajni Patel who was the Congress Pradesh Committee President of Bombay. She was born in the Breach Candy Hospital in Bombay and is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer since the age of five.Her birth name is a blend of the first three letters of her father's name Amit and the last three letters of her mother's name Asha.
She studied at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Bombay and was head girl for the academic year 1992–1993 before heading overseas to study Economics at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.
Patel's career began as an economic analyst at Khandwala Securities Limited after graduation. Later on, she received an offer from Morgan Stanley but turned it down. After returning to India, she joined Satyadev Dubey's theatre group and acted in plays, including an Urdu language play titled Neelam (1999) that was written by Tanveer Khan,upon receiving permission from her conservative parents. At the same time she plunged into modeling appearing in several commercial campaigns. Patel has also modeled for well-known Indian brands like Bajaj Sevashram, Fair & Lovely, Cadburys Jai Lime, Fem, Lux and many more.
Amisha patel comes from a family of very high profile. but this indian damsel never dreamt of becoming an actress. She was a true beauty with brains combo. It was at a family dinner at the Roshan’s house that Mr. Rakesh Roshan offered the heroine role in ’Kaho Na pyaar Hai’ to her which was earlier given to Kareena Kapoor.
A shy girl but with a good sense of humor, Amisha believes in honesty and hates double standards and hypocrisy. I m a transparent person because I don t like hypocrisy. I may not open up to someone quickly, but that doesn t mean that I pretend. It s too taxing. avers Ms. Patel.
On the personal front, the hazel-eyed beauty spends most of her free time reading books and listening to Jagjit Singh. She is a foodie and loves butter- chicken and paranthas . She considers her family, her greatest strength and is superstitious about names and numbers.
Amisha’s Movies
Amisha Patel got lucky when Kareena Kapoor opted out of Hrithik Roshan’s debut Kaho Na Pyaar Hai (2000). The movie was a blockbuster and Amisha became famous overnight. She also worked her acting skills in the Telugu movie Badri with Pawan Kalyan.
In 2001, she gave a fantastic performance as Sakeena in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. She won the Filmfare Special Performance Award. She worked with Hrithik Roshan again in Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage (2002) that flopped. Humraaz (2002) was a hit.
She acted in several movies like Pudhiya Geethai (2003), Naani (2004), Elaan (2005), Narasimhudu (2005), Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005), Teesri Aankh (2006) and Aap Ki Kathir (2006).
Her luck changed for the better with Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd (2007) in which she played the bubbly, garish Pinky Kapoor. Bhool Bhulaiyya (2007) with Akshay Kumar and Shiney Ahuja also did well. She made a brief appearance in Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic in the song Lazy Lamhe.
In 2009, Amisha will be appearing in comedies Run Bhola Run with Govinda and Chatur Singh Two Star with Sanjay Dutt.
