Basics on Archana
Archana Puran Singh was born on 26th March 1962 in Dehradun, India. She moved to Mumbai looking for opportunities in modeling and has worked in a Band Aid ad. She is married to actor Parmeet Sethi and they have two sons.
Archana Puran Singh’s first major role was in Pankaj Parashar’s Jalwa (1986). Although the film was a big hit, Archana Puran Singh didn’t get many big offers. She did some small parts in Agneepath (1990), Saudagar (1991), Shola aur Shabnam (1992), Aashiq Awara etc. (1993).
Archana’s first major role was in Raja Hindustani (1996). She played Karisma’s vampish step-mother in this film, and made an impact with her performance. Her comic role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) too went down very well with the audience.
Although she was noticed and appreciated in TV serial Shriman Shrimati (1989), her first popular TV show Kya Scene Hai on Zee TV, way back in 1993 Archana Puran Singh went on to do cameos in big films like Mela (2000), Mohabbatein (2000), Jhankaar Beats (2003) and Masti (2004). Meanwhile, She played a major character, that of Sunil Shetty’s greedy wife in Bade Dilwala (1999).
Meanwhile, Archana Puran Singh was always busy with her TV shows like Kandy floss, Nach Baliye, Jhalak Dikhla Ja etc. Archana Puran Singh has a major role in Harry Baweja’s Love Story 2050. She is also doing many TV shows at present. Archana Puran Singh won a Star screen award for Best performance in a comic role in Kuch kuch Hota Hai in 1998. Actor Parmeet Sethi is her husband. She was also a Miss India contestant in 1986.
Archana Puran Singh received offers mainly for B-grade movies most of which were short on content and more of soft porn type.
Later, Archana did small roles in big banner Blockbusters like Agneepath (1990), Saudagar (1991), Shola aur Shabnam (1992), and Aashiq Awara (1993); she also did item songs in movies like , the Govinda starrer thriller Baaz, and Suniel Shetty starrer, Judge Mujrim.
In Mumbai, she started doing ad-films, and was successful after her most famous ad for Band-Aid. The ad was produced by Jalal Agha, and noticing her talent he cast her in the lead role in his serial, Mr and Mrs. Her next big break came with Pankaj Parasher's Karamchand.
Film career
She made her film debut in 1987, in the film Jalwa opposite Naseeruddin Shah. Although the film was a big hit, Archana failed to catch the eye of the leading producers and directors, she received offers mainly for B-grade movies most of which were short on content and more of soft porn type. Later, she did small roles in big banner films like Agneepath (1990), Saudagar (1991), Shola aur Shabnam (1992), Aashiq Awara (1993),and Raja Hindustani (1996); she also did item songs in films like, the Govinda starrer thriller Baaz, and Suniel Shetty starrer, Judge Mujrim.
Thereafter, she has largely restricted herself to supporting roles in Hindi Films, often in comedies. Some of her recent films include Love Story 2050, Mohabbatein, Krrish,Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Masti. Amongst these, she is possibly best remembered for essaying the role of the flirtatious college professor Miss Braganza in the blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. In 2009 she starred in the Punjabi film Tera Mera Ki Rishta.
